October 3 (Saturday)

Virginia Capital Trail Ride

Description: Please join us Saturday, October 3, for our monthly Capital Trail ride. Wheels roll at 9:00 AM from 4 Mile Creek Park. We'll ride down to Spoke & Art and back to log 75 miles.

Options:

• Riders may opt to do the Jamestown loop for the 5 additional miles, while the rest of the crew fuels up at Spoke & Art.
• Riders may opt for a shorter route (40 miles) by riding with the group to the first rest stop at the Charles City Courthouse, then riding back to the start.

I will lead a group looking to average 17.0 mph. There may be a group looking to do 19+, as well.

I've shared the details below; wheels roll at 9 AM.

• Start/finish: Four Mile Creek Park, 3256 New Market Road, Henrico, VA 23231
• Distance is 75 miles (w/ optional + 5 miles to Jamestown making it 80)
• Ride 20 miles to the Charles City Courthouse, where we'll take a bio and water refill break.
• Ride 18 miles to the Spoke & Art Coffee Shop, where we'll take a 15-20 minute break.
• Ride 18 miles back to the Charles City Courthouse for another bio and water refill break.
• Ride the final 20 miles back to Four Mile Creek Park.

We may take additional shade breaks along the route, as desired or necessary.

October 10 & 11 (Saturday and Sunday)

Tappahannock Weekend Adventure

Description and Directions: This is a 2-day ride starting at the Hannover Courthouse complex on Saturday at 9 AM, riding to Tappahannock, with a return to Hanover on Sunday. Saturday will offer 2 distance options – Long about 57 mi. and 1900 +/- ft of elevation and Short about 43 mi. and 1500 +/- feet of elevation. The Sunday return will be either 50 or 53 miles with 1500 or 1900 feet of elevation. . Touring pace – 13 to 14 Avg., and various store stops enroute.

Make your own reservations in Tappahannock, Holiday Inn Express (804) 445-1200) incl. bkfst, Super 8, or several other options. Hotel has a pool to enjoy the nice afternoon after we arrive. Be prepared to carry your gear (only for one night!) unless we have a volunteer to carry the baggage. This is a great intro to bike touring. Tandems welcome.

Description and Directions: Join us for the RABA Annual Picnic Ride on Sunday October 11th at 8:30 AM, rolling out from Dorey Park Rear Parking Lots (Shelters 4 & 5, 2999 Darbytown Rd, Henrico). All paces are welcome on this no-drop ride, with 30, 40, and 53-mile routes (store stops included, GPS links below), plus a D group on the Cap Trail. Please arrive early enough to park, be ready to roll by start time, and bring plenty of water since this is not a supported ride. Afterward, stick around for the RABA Picnic—Jeff Sampson’s skills at the grill and John Senn’s famous Gumbo!

Adopt-a-Highway Trash Pick Up

Description and Directions: It’s time for our last ABC Route trash pickup for this year. Please meet at the intersection of Karen, Elmont, and Old Elmont Roads. We’ll gather supplies and split into work groups. Gloves, long pants, and boots are recommended. When finished we head to Ashland for light refreshments.
