2023 Bikes for Kids Assembly

What: 2023 Bikes for Kids Assembly
Where: Richmond Community Toolbank, 1407 Cummings Dr, Richmond, VA
When: Saturday, November 18, at 9 AM.

Andrew Mann is busy buying 350+ children’s bikes and arranging for their delivery to the Richmond Community Toolbank, 1407 Cummings Dr, Richmond, VA, our host site and nonprofit warehouse partner.  This is for our annual  Bikes for Kids assembly effort.

Our normal assembly date is the first Saturday in November, however Toolbank had a conflict on that date, so we are doing the build on Saturday, 11/18, at 9 AM.  The Save the Date notice was published in the October Pedaler.

What we need now are lots volunteers to help put them together and make sure they are safe to ride!  Here are some details to help set expectations and orient you to the ask:

  • You don’t have to know how to put together a bicycle, I can use you for lots of non-bicycle building tasks!
  • Event takes place rain or shine; there will be accommodations made to work in inclement weather
  • Event start / end time is approximately 9 am to 1 pm (or until all bikes are built, double-checked, and moved into the onsite warehouse)
    • If you are assigned to a bicycle building team, there will be a bicycle assembly short class put on by a skilled bicycle mechanic about 45-60 minutes before the building begins
    • If you can’t work the entire time, that’s okay, just note in your registration sign up (see below) – I need every hour I can get 😊
  • We will have a pizza lunch for volunteers who are working through lunch time
  • If you bring children who need volunteer service hours, I will complete any attestation form, just bring the form on event day

If you would like to volunteer, please click here If you can’t or don’t want to volunteer, would you consider making a donation in any amount meaningful to you?  Here is the donation link:  https://www.raba.org/bikes-for-kids/

Please spread the word and the registration link about this volunteer effort, non-club members are welcome!  A reminder:  bicycles are donated to the Christmas Mother programs in the city and counties surrounding the City of Richmond.  In 2023, we also donated to some East End schools.  These nonprofits depend on the RABA Foundation’s donation of bicycles, which come through your generous donation of money, effort, and time.

Thank you in advance for your consideration to volunteer,
